Canyon Frontenex

The Frontenex canyon is located near Annecy and Faverges, on the banks of Lake Annecy. It is also 30 minutes from Albertville on the border between Savoie and Haute Savoie.

The Frontenex canyon is the narrowest of the canyons we offer. It is also accessible because there is very little walking. It’s also very short, challenging and with no escape routes. There is also a series of short abseils of around ten metres. This canyon is therefore ideal for an introduction to this technique. It’s also a little wonder of nature, sculpted by water over the centuries. The canyon is also open to adults and children aged 12 and over who are curious to find out what a real canyon is like. For this canyon descent, we only take a maximum of 8 people per group

Description of the Frontenex canyon

Frontenex discovery

Firstly, there is no approach step. The canyon starts at the bridge between Frontenex and the Raynoz.
You start with a ten-metre abseil. This is followed by a series of smaller abseils in a beautiful narrow passage. There are no steps, jumps or slides in this canyon. The descent ends at the exit of the narrow passage.
Finally, for the return walk, you have to leave the gorge via a steep path. This is equipped with fixed ropes to help us climb back up 50m. You then return to the bridge via the fields. This takes about 15 minutes.

In conclusion, the Frontenex canyon is a real gem. Narrow, with a series of abseils, it leaves little room for jumps or slides. However, in my experience, for canyoning, this is a canyon that has nothing to envy the canyons of the Sierra de Guara in Spain. It’s a beautiful narrowing, carved out of the limestone, that plunges you into an atmosphere that could not be more “canyon”! A must-do if you want to know what canyoning is all about.

Canyoning outdoor activity

First of all, canyoning is an outdoor sporting activity with no need for a boat. It involves walking, swimming and crossing obstacles in different ways, either by jumping, sliding, abseiling. It is therefore essential to know how to swim.

Secondly, the approach, descent and return times are given as a guide only, and may vary according to weather conditions, how often the canyon is used and the level of the group.

Please note that canyoning is not recommended for people who are sensitive to vertigo or have weak backs. So please, don’t force anyone to come. It is OBLIGATORY to inform us of any physical or mental handicap when you make your reservation, just as it is required to inform the guide before your departure in canyon.
