Canyon Frontenex
The Frontenex canyon is located near Annecy and Faverges, on the commune of the source of Lake Annecy. This canyon is 30 minutes from Albertville, on the border between Savoie and Haute-Savoie.
It’s undoubtedly the narrowest canyon among those we offer. It’s accessible, short, committed and without loopholes. This canyon is ideal for introductory abseiling. It’s also a little wonder of nature, sculpted by water over the centuries. The canyon is also open to adults and children aged 12 and over who want to find out what a real canyon is like. For this canyon descent, we only take a maximum of 8 people per group.
Description of the Frontenex canyoning
Frontenex discovery
First of all, there’s no approach walk. The canyon starts at the bridge between Frontenex and the Raynoz.
We start with an initial abseil of around ten metres. This is followed by a series of smaller abseils in a beautiful narrow passage. There is no canyon walking. This canyon consists mainly of short abseiling descents. The descent ends at the exit of the narrow passage.
For the return walk, you have to climb out of this canyon by a steep 50m climb equipped with ropes, then return to the bridge via the fields. It takes about 10 mn in all.
In conclusion, the Frontenex canyon is a real gem. It’s one abseil after another, leaving little room for jumps or slides. This is a canyon that has nothing to envy the canyons of the Sierra de guara canyons in Spain. It’s a magnificent narrow passage carved out of the limestone that plunges you into an atmosphere that could not be more “canyon” ! For those who really want to discover what canyoning is all about… a must-do.

Canyoning outdoor activity
First of all, canyoning is an outdoor sporting activity with no need for a boat. It involves walking, swimming and crossing obstacles in different ways, either by jumping, sliding, abseiling. It is therefore essential to know how to swim.
Secondly, the approach, descent and return times are given as a guide only, and may vary according to weather conditions, how often the canyon is used and the level of the group.
Please note that canyoning is not recommended for people who are sensitive to vertigo or have weak backs. So please, don’t force anyone to come. It is OBLIGATORY to inform us of any physical or mental handicap when you make your reservation, just as it is required to inform the guide before your departure in canyon.
