Canyon Angon

The Angon canyon and waterfall is located in Angon, Haute-Savoie, near Lake Annecy, 30 minutes from Albertville. This is not only a very sporty canyoning trip, but also a technical canyoning descent with vertical abseils into the void. The canyon is open to adults and teenagers with some abseiling experience, but also those in very good physical condition.

Description of the Angon “very sporty” canyoning

Angon “very sporty”

There’s the 45-mn approach walk, which winds its way up for 200m. The start is halfway up the Angon waterfall, with a superb view over Lake Annecy.

The first part of the canyoning trip is highly technical and steep. This is the “high” part of the canyon. It begins directly with a compulsory 30-metre vertical abseil into the Angon waterfall. This is followed by a 25-metre spider abseil (abseiling into the void without touching the wall). It is strongly recommended that you have already abseiled and are not prone to vertigo. This is followed by a succession of jumps and slides, interspersed with walks and smaller abseils. It’s a beautiful, narrow canyon section carved out of fine grey limestone.

The second canyoning section is less technical and steep. This is the “lower” part of the canyon. It begins at a passage known as “the letterbox”. This is also the start of the “discovery” section of the Angon canyon. This descent consists of 3 compulsory abseils (the highest of which is around twenty metres high) interspersed with optional jumps, slides and walks.

The descent ends with a 15-minute walk back along a path that leads up and then down to the car park.

In conclusion, the descent of the “very sporty” option for the Angon Canyon is a beautiful, technical and very athletic sequence. It’s a challenging canyoning trip in a wild, green environment that will keep you on your toes right to the end. It’s also a more technical and steep canyon than the “very sporty” version of the Montmin canyon. For this canyon descent, we only take a maximum of 8 people per group.

Canyoning outdoor activity

First of all, canyoning is an outdoor sporting activity with no need for a boat. It involves walking, swimming and crossing obstacles in different ways, either by jumping, sliding, abseiling. It is therefore essential to know how to swim.

Secondly, the approach, descent and return times are given as a guide only, and may vary according to weather conditions, how often the canyon is used and the level of the group.

Please note that canyoning is not recommended for people who are sensitive to vertigo or have weak backs. So please, don’t force anyone to come. It is OBLIGATORY to inform us of any physical or mental handicap when you make your reservation, just as it is required to inform the guide before your departure in canyon.
