Canyon Montmin

The Montmin canyon is located above the village of Vésonne on the road to Montmin in the direction of the Col de la Forclaz. This canyon is located in Haute-Savoie near Lake Annecy, 30 minutes from Albertville.

The “discovery” option of the Montmin canyon is a “lighter” canyoning trip than the very sporty version. It represents one of the two halves of the Montmin very sporty canyon. It can be the top part (1st part) as well as the bottom part (2nd part). The choice of guide is based on a number of criteria: visitor numbers, water level, sporting ability, parking, etc.

Both parts of the canyon are not only fun with their jumps and slides, but also technical with their ten-meter abseils. This canyoning experience is open to adults and children aged 12 and over with a taste for adventure.

Description of the Montmin “discoverycanyoning

Montmin “discovery”

Whether on the upper or lower section, the discovery option of the Montmin canyon begins with a short approach walk.

For the upper part, we take a path from the parking lot that descends gently to the river in 10 minutes.

For the lower part, follow the road back up to the trailhead, which leads down to the torrent. It takes 30 minutes in all.

The upper part is very varied. You’ll also discover exuberant nature and beautiful limestone formations. It makes for a great “discovery canyoning” outing. It’s the ideal way to get to grips with canyoning for the first time. Less crowded than the lower part, it is also preferred during busy periods.

The upper part is very varied. It consists of small jumps, slides and abseils of less than ten metres, interspersed with river walks, including a passage under a magnificent arch. Small, non-compulsory passages in caves and the passage through a siphon, also optional, add to the aesthetic and playful aspect of this part of the torrent. You’ll also discover exuberant nature and beautiful limestone formations. It makes for a great “discovery canyoning” outing. It’s the ideal way to get to grips with canyoning for the first time. Less crowded, it is also preferred during busy periods.

The lower part is more technical. This is a series of abseils or compulsory descents of around ten meters, as well as optional jumps of less than 5 meters with small slides. An optional cave passage offers the more adventurous an extra challenge. This lower part of the Montmin canyon is narrower than the upper part. Nevertheless, it remains accessible to novice sports enthusiasts in an atmosphere of adventure and discovery.

Both the upper and lower sections of the Montmin canyon discovery option end with a return walk.

For the upper part, take a path that winds its way up through twists and turns to the road, then follow the road back up to the parking lot.

For the lower part, follow a steep path up 150 metres to the parking lot.

Either way, it’s at least a 30-minute walk back.

In conclusion, the Montmin canyon in “discovery” style is a great introduction to canyoning. It’s a lot of fun, but it’s a descent that requires a minimum of physical fitness and a certain desire to excel. It’s made up of a fine array of the elements you’d find in a classic canyon descent, including the approach and return walks. The lower section is more technical than the upper, but both are great canyoning adventures in a wild, verdant environment.

Canyoning outdoor activity

First of all, canyoning is an outdoor sporting activity with no need for a boat. It involves walking, swimming and crossing obstacles in different ways, either by jumping, sliding, abseiling. It is therefore essential to know how to swim.

Secondly, the approach, descent and return times are given as a guide only, and may vary according to weather conditions, how often the canyon is used and the level of the group.

Please note that canyoning is not recommended for people who are sensitive to vertigo or have weak backs. So please, don’t force anyone to come. It is OBLIGATORY to inform us of any physical or mental handicap when you make your reservation, just as it is required to inform the guide before your departure in canyon.
